Manchester City's Akanji Believes Team's Luck Will Turn
Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji remains optimistic about the team's chances of regaining their form despite a recent slump.
Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji, 27, remains optimistic that his team's fortunes will soon change, despite a disappointing 1-1 draw with Everton. Akanji believes that the performance against Everton could be the catalyst for a resurgence in form for the reigning Premier League champions.
The draw with Everton marked Manchester City's 13th game without a convincing win, with their only victory in that span coming in a narrow 1-0 win. As a result, City now trails leaders Liverpool by a significant 14-point margin, with Liverpool also holding a game in hand. Despite this setback, Akanji is confident that City's luck will eventually turn in their favor.
“It felt like a frustrating afternoon but, when you compare it to the other matches, we played really well from the first minute to the last," said Swiss international Akanji.
“We tried to score a goal, we tried to play offensive football, but they (Everton) basically scored out of nowhere. We did enough to win the match but it didn't turn our way.”
Manchester City will look to bounce back from their recent slump when they face struggling Leicester City on Sunday. Defender Manuel Akanji emphasized the importance of perseverance and hard work in overcoming their current challenges. “We need to keep on working and the next opportunity is in a few days. There's nothing else we can do at the moment,” Akanji said.
Akanji expressed his confidence that City will eventually regain their form, despite their struggles in recent games. “We're trying everything... I still believe that we will come back to the way we used to play - it will come sooner or later,” he added, conveying his optimism about the team's potential for improvement.
