Guardiola Sounds Alarm as Manchester City's Champions League Hopes Fade
Pep Guardiola warns Manchester City's Champions League qualification is at risk after poor form.
Manchester City's recent slump has put their Champions League qualification for next season in jeopardy, according to manager Pep Guardiola. The Citizens are aiming to extend their streak of participating in Europe's premier club competition to 15 consecutive seasons. However, their dismal run of just one win in eight Premier League games has left them seventh in the table, a whopping 12 points adrift of leaders Liverpool.
Guardiola's concerns about securing a Champions League spot are compounded by the fact that Manchester City are currently four points behind Nottingham Forest, who occupy the fourth and final qualification berth. In a warning to his team, Guardiola reflected on the experiences of other clubs in the country, highlighting the challenges of maintaining a consistent level of success. “When I said before, people laughed. They said, 'qualifying for the Champions League is not a big success'. But I know it because it happens with clubs in this country,” Guardiola told reporters ahead of their home match against Everton. “They were dominant for many years and after they were many years not qualifying for the Champions League.”
“They were dominant for many years and after they were many years not qualifying for the Champions League.
“The one team that has been in the Champions League for the past years has been Manchester City. Now we are at risk, of course we are.”
Following their home match against Everton on Thursday, Manchester City will next travel to face Leicester City on December 29th.
