Fernandez Credits Maresca for Chelsea Revival

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez reveals how understanding coach Enzo Maresca's tactics has helped him regain form after a slow start.

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has expressed his growing comfort at the club, attributing his recent resurgence in form to a deepening understanding of what coach Enzo Maresca expects from him. The 23-year-old Argentine's initial struggles to justify his hefty £106 million price tag have given way to a renewed sense of confidence and purpose.

Fernandez's early season performances were underwhelming, leading to him being benched in favor of Romeo Lavia after starting six of Chelsea's first seven league matches. However, the Argentine has since rediscovered his footing, and his improved displays have coincided with a growing rapport with Maresca. Fernandez now feels “very good” at Chelsea, a sentiment that bodes well for the Blues' prospects in the remainder of the season.

Enzo Fernandez's return to the Chelsea lineup last month has been a resounding success, with the Argentine midfielder contributing three goals and four assists in seven Premier League games. This upturn in form has coincided with Chelsea's rise to second in the table. Fernandez attributes his revitalized performances to a deeper understanding of his role and coach Enzo Maresca's expectations.

In an interview with ESPN published on Monday, Fernandez shed light on the factors behind his improved displays. “I learned the position in which I had to play, over time I got the idea of what the coach wanted,” Fernandez explained. “He (Maresca) explained to me what he wanted and I was getting the concept, reading the games.” Despite his progress, Fernandez remains grounded, acknowledging that “there is still a long way to go.” On a personal level, however, Fernandez is feeling increasingly confident, stating, “On a personal level I have been feeling very good.”

Fernandez also praised the collective effort of his Chelsea teammates, highlighting their strong character, work ethic, and humility. “The team has shown a very strong character, always working and with humility and showing that great things can be achieved,” he noted. Chelsea will look to build on their momentum when they host London rivals Fulham on Thursday, followed by a trip to face Ipswich Town on December 30.
