Bundesliga: Dortmund Secure Convincing Win at Wolfsburg Despite Late Red Card

Borussia Dortmund wrapped up 2024 with a resounding 4-1 win at Wolfsburg, despite Pascal Gross's late red card.

Borussia Dortmund ended 2024 on a high note, securing their first Bundesliga away win of the season with a convincing 4-1 victory over Wolfsburg. The match was highlighted by a thrilling five-minute spell in which Dortmund scored three goals, effectively sealing the win.

Donyell Malen opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 25th minute, showcasing his athleticism with an acrobatic finish from a corner. The lead was doubled just three minutes later, as Julian Brandt's clever pass found Maximilian Beier, who slotted the ball past Kamil Grabara. Beier then turned provider, setting up Brandt to smash home Dortmund's third goal in the 30th minute.

Wolfsburg was given a glimmer of hope in the second half when Denis Vavro headed in Maximilian Arnold's corner, reducing the deficit to 3-1. However, Dortmund's dominant performance ensured that they would emerge victorious, capping off the year in style.

Borussia Dortmund's woes deepened when Pascal Gross, formerly of Brighton, received a red card for fouling Lukas Nmecha as he sprinted towards goal. This setback left Dortmund facing intense pressure, but Nuri Sahin's team demonstrated resilience in defense, withstanding waves of attacks from Wolfsburg to secure a hard-fought draw.

The draw has significant implications for the Bundesliga standings, as Dortmund's opponents, Wolfsburg, have climbed to sixth place, now just two points adrift of fourth-placed RB Leipzig. When the league resumes on January 10, Dortmund will face a daunting challenge as they host reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen. Meanwhile, Wolfsburg will travel to Hoffenheim on January 11, seeking to build on their recent momentum.
