Dynamo Kyiv faced Czechia’s Viktoria Plzen in the fifth round of the main stage of the Europa League. The match, which took place at the Volksparkstadion arena in Hamburg, ended in a 1-2 defeat for the Ukrainians.
Dynamo Kyiv finally broke their European Cup duck in the 51st minute, but their joy was short-lived. A cross from the right flank by Karavaev deflected off Shaparenko and fell to Vivcharenko, who scored the goal. However, the celebration was cut short as VAR intervened, ruling the goal offside.
The momentum swung in Viktoria Plzen's favor, and they capitalized on it moments later. Matěj Vydra struck from outside the penalty area, sending a precise shot into the bottom corner to give the Czech side the lead. Despite Dynamo Kyiv's persistent efforts, they were unable to find an equalizer.
In the final minute of regular time, Viktoria Plzen sealed the result. Sulc doubled the Czech side's lead, leaving Dynamo Kyiv with too little time to mount a comeback. The goal ensured that Viktoria Plzen would take all three points from the match.
Dynamo Kyiv managed to score a consolation goal in stoppage time, courtesy of Kabaiev, marking their first official goal in the tournament. Although this late strike provided some solace, it ultimately proved insufficient to secure their first point in the competition.
The 1-2 defeat condemned Dynamo Kyiv to their fifth consecutive loss in the Europa League, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the group standings. As the group stage draws to a close, Dynamo Kyiv will face Real Sociedad on December 12, while Viktoria Plzeň will host Manchester United on the same day.
