Stellantis Announces 1,100 Layoffs at Toledo, Ohio Assembly Plant
Stellantis, the parent company of iconic brands Peugeot, Fiat, and Chrysler, announced plans to slash approximately 1,100 jobs at its Toledo, Ohio assembly plant. The decision, revealed on November 7, aims to optimize operations.
As part of the restructuring, the Toledo South Assembly Plant will transition from two shifts to a single shift starting in 2025. Additionally, around 400 employees will be reassigned to a third-party service provider.
The move marks a significant adjustment for Stellantis' US operations. The company cited the need to align production with market demands and improve efficiency.
“These are difficult actions to take, but they are necessary to enable the Company to regain its competitive edge and eventually return production to prior levels,” the statement said.
Stellantis' third-quarter sales took a hit, plummeting 42% in North America. This significant decline prompted the company to take corrective action.
To boost sales and clear inventory, Stellantis launched promotional offers across US dealerships. The move aims to support dealers struggling to reduce stock levels and revitalize sales momentum.
The sales slump has forced Stellantis to reassess its strategy and adapt to shifting market demands.
“As Stellantis navigates a transitional year, the focus is on realigning its US operations to ensure a strong start to 2025, which includes taking the difficult but necessary action to reduce high inventory levels by managing production to meet sales.” the statement added.
