NEMA conducts successful rescue operation in Oyo, extracting 5 people from collapsed building.




Tragedy struck in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, October 31, when a building collapsed in the Jegede area, resulting in the loss of 10 lives. Thankfully, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and its partners were able to rescue at least five people from the rubble.


NEMA's South West Zonal Coordinator, Kadiri Olanrewaju, confirmed that the agency received a distress alert on Thursday, prompting immediate action. Unfortunately, many others were injured in the incident, and the exact cause of the building collapse is yet to be determined.

“With the combined effort of response stakeholders five (5) persons were rescued alive, which include One (1) Adult Male, Two (2) Adult Female and Two (2) Children.


“These victims were carried to Mercyland clinic and maternity center for immediate medical care. Unfortunately, Ten (10) persons lost their lives in the incident.


“One adult victim has been discharged from the hospital, while one victim was unconscious and has been transferred to Adeoyo General Hospital at Temetu, Ibadan,” he stated.
