Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and French President Emmanuel Macron have pledged to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperate on economic initiatives.

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has expressed his confidence in the country's ongoing economic reforms, stating that they will have a profound impact on Africa's future. Speaking at a State Dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palais des Élysée on November 28, Tinubu highlighted Nigeria's crucial role in shaping Africa's future.

Tinubu praised the strong bond between Nigeria and France, commending Macron's dedication to Africa. This statement comes as Nigeria undergoes significant economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the naira's exchange rates. These reforms aim to boost Nigeria's economy and promote growth, but experts warn that they may also lead to increased poverty and inflation

Tinubu's economic reforms have been well-received by the international financial community, but critics argue that they may not adequately address the country's deep-seated structural issues. To achieve sustainable growth, Nigeria must prioritize improving its business environment, boosting productivity, and diversifying its exports.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu, revealed details of a significant event in a recent State House press statement. President Tinubu, accompanied by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu and a high-level delegation, including World Trade Organization Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships.

President Tinubu expressed his gratitude and honor at being received by French President Emmanuel Macron, acknowledging Macron's deep understanding of Nigeria's vast potential. This meeting highlights the strengthening of ties between Nigeria and France, with a focus on cooperation and partnership.

“Your warmth, your commitment, and your foresight in Africa are remarkable. Together, we have no choice but to build a continent that prioritizes its people and development.”

President Bola Tinubu commended the presence of prominent Nigerian businessmen, including Aliko Dangote, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, and Tony Elumelu, at a recent event. Their presence served as a testament to the enduring partnership between Nigeria and France.

Tinubu expressed his confidence in Nigeria's ongoing reforms, believing they will create a brighter future not just for Nigeria, but for the entire African continent. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and mutual support in driving economic growth and development.

Notably, Tinubu has also established an Economic Advisory Committee, comprising esteemed individuals like Dangote and Elumelu, to provide expert guidance on tackling Nigeria's economic challenges.

“This is a good time for all of us,” Tinubu noted.

“As President of Nigeria at this challenging time, I am proud to lead efforts to chart a new course for Africa. Our reforms are designed to create a future that our children and grandchildren can embrace with pride.”

Nigeria's leader has reaffirmed his commitment to implementing economic reforms aimed at revitalizing the country's economy and boosting Africa's economic growth prospects. Essentially, these reforms are designed to stimulate Nigeria's economy and, by extension, enhance the economic prospects of the African continent.

President Macron acknowledged Nigeria's significant role in Africa, referring to it as a “big brother” due to its resilience and considerable influence on the global stage. Macron's statement underscores the importance of Nigeria's leadership in Africa and its potential to shape the continent's future.

Nigeria's president assured France's president that the country's economic reforms are designed to boost Nigeria's economy and strengthen Africa's economic outlook, highlighting the achievements of notable Nigerians such as Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka and musician Femi Kuti. By recognizing these individuals, Macron emphasized Nigeria's rich cultural heritage and its contributions to the global community.

“We are committed to breaking free from the past and embracing a future built on courage and optimism,” he said.

“You transformed Lagos' economy, and now you are on a mission to transform the entire country. Nigeria is a formidable nation with talented youth, and I believe in its future.”

President Macron emphasized France's enduring commitment to investing in Nigeria's key sectors, including oil, gas, and construction. He also shed light on emerging opportunities for cooperation in areas like solid minerals, technology, and the film industry, signaling a potential expansion of France's economic footprint in Nigeria.

“France and Nigeria will continue to lead together, forging a path forward for our shared prosperity,” Macron concluded.

Bayo Onanuga noted that the event marked a significant milestone in strengthening the relationship between Nigeria and France. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to working together on initiatives that promote economic growth and development across Africa. This renewed partnership is expected to foster greater cooperation and mutual benefit between the two nations.
