The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted successful airstrikes against terrorist targets in the Lake Chad region. Learn more about the operation.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dealt a significant blow to insurgents in the Lake Chad Basin, killing many in airstrikes targeting their food depots in Jubillaram, a notorious stronghold in the Tumbuns region.
According to Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, NAF spokesman, the airstrikes were carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (AC OPHK) on Saturday, November 23. The operation was a result of careful intelligence gathering, which pinpointed the location as a key food storage facility and a refuge for terrorist leaders and fighters.
Intelligence had earlier linked the terrorists in the area to recent attacks, including the assault on troops in Kareto on Saturday, November 16. The successful airstrikes demonstrate the NAF's commitment to combating terrorism in the region. The Air Task Force dispatched a force package of NAF fighter jets and helicopter gunships to engage the target areas, scoring devastating hits and neutralizing several terrorists.
Olusola said, “In response, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets launched a robust air interdiction mission, destroying identified structures used as storage facilities and neutralising terrorists on-site.
“Mop-up operations using cannons ensured the complete elimination of fleeing hostile elements.”
The success of the airstrikes was largely attributed to the meticulous planning and execution of comprehensive Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. These missions, which spanned several days, utilized advanced technologies to gather critical information on the terrorist structures hidden beneath the dense vegetation in the area.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) spokesman revealed that the destruction of the terrorist enclave, along with their food storage facilities, significantly disrupted their logistical operations. This disruption was further compounded by the loss of a large number of fighters, which weakened their ability to carry out future attacks.
The NAF's mission demonstrates its unwavering commitment to protecting Nigeria and its citizens. The Air Force continues to play a crucial role in counterterrorism operations, both independently and in support of ground forces. This dedication to safeguarding the nation is a testament to the NAF's steadfast resolve.
According to Olusola, the NAF will persist in conducting robust solo and joint operations. These efforts aim to bring to justice all individuals and groups threatening Nigeria's prosperity and well-being. The NAF remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the security and stability of the nation.
