Olubunmi Johnson, 55, arrested for allegedly setting wife Kikelomo on fire in Ogun State, Nigeria, following a domestic dispute.
A gruesome domestic violence incident occurred in Ota, Ogun State, when Olubunmi Johnson allegedly set his wife, Kikelomo, on fire during a heated argument.
Eyewitnesses reported the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8, at their Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, residence. Although details surrounding the dispute remain unclear, the consequences were devastating.
Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed Olubunmi Johnson's arrest and detention in connection with the crime.
A dramatic turn of events unfolded when a neighbor witnessed a horrific incident and swiftly alerted the victim's family members. The family promptly notified the authorities, leading to a swift investigation into the alleged attempted murder.
Thanks to the neighbor's quick thinking and the family's prompt action, police officers from the Ilogbo Division sprang into action. Under the leadership of Odutola, they efficiently apprehended the 55-year-old suspect, taking a critical step towards justice.

“A similar case of domestic violence happened in October 2024, when a 30- year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, allegedly stabbed his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, to death at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
“The incident occurred following a heated argument between the couple.”
Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed a horrific incident where Motunrayo Olaniyi, 30, allegedly stabbed his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, 25, multiple times during a heated argument. He then locked her in their room at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, Ikorodu, and set it ablaze. Tragically, Olajumoke succumbed to her injuries, and her lifeless body was found with abdominal wounds after police extinguished the fire.
In a shocking twist, Olaniyi also inflicted wounds on himself after committing the crime. He was rescued, treated, and discharged from the hospital before being taken into police custody. The police are investigating the incident, and Olajumoke's body has been deposited at Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
This devastating incident highlights the alarming rate of domestic violence in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for urgent attention and action to prevent such tragedies.
