Edo: Governor-Elect Accuses Obaseki of Fleeing in Disguise

Obaseki's Whereabouts Unknown, Says Okpebholo

“Edo people are worried about Obaseki's reckless statements and actions...”

Edo Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, raises concerns over outgoing Governor Obaseki's sudden disappearance.

Edo State Governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo has expressed concerns over the sudden disappearance of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki from the state. Okpebholo described Obaseki's actions as “bizarre” and alleged that he left Benin City in secrecy. According to Okpebholo, Obaseki evacuated the Government House on Friday, ordering staff to vacate the premises before departing in a disguised bus.

The governor-elect's spokesperson, Godspower Inegbe, issued a statement on behalf of Okpebholo, stating that “Edo people are worried about Obaseki's reckless statements and actions.” The statement also urged Obaseki to assess his mental state. This development has raised eyebrows, especially given the transition of power that is expected to take place.

Okpebholo, a senator representing Edo Central senatorial district, was declared the winner of the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). As the Governor-elect, Okpebholo's concerns about Obaseki's actions may be driven by a desire to ensure a smooth transition and maintain stability in the state.

Concerns are rising in Edo State over Governor Godwin Obaseki's recent actions and statements, which many perceive as reckless and distracting. According to Godspower Inegbe, spokesperson for Governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo, Obaseki's behavior has sparked worries among Edo people regarding his intentions and whereabouts as he prepares to leave office.

Inegbe's statement implies that Obaseki's comments might be an attempt to divert attention from alleged plans to exit the country through land borders. This development comes at a critical time, as the state is poised for a leadership transition. Okpebholo is urging for a transparent and peaceful handover process to ensure stability in the state.

The situation is unfolding against the backdrop of Obaseki's contentious relationship with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Previously, Obaseki had accused the APC of plotting to cause chaos in the state, while the APC responded by assuring voters of a violence-free election. As the transition of power looms, tensions are running high, and the people of Edo State are eagerly awaiting a smooth and peaceful transfer of leadership.
