US Woman Charged with Husband's Murder
“We told them their father is missing and the police are questioning their mother because...”
A US woman has been charged with murder after a confrontation with her husband over alleged infidelity turned deadly.
Jennifer Gledhill, 41, of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, has been charged with first-degree murder for fatally shooting her husband, Matthew Johnson, at their $1 million residence.
The shooting occurred on September 21, while Johnson was asleep. According to authorities, the motive stemmed from a confrontation the previous night, sparked by Johnson's suspicions of Gledhill's infidelity.
A tip from Gledhill's alleged lover led police to investigate. The informant, who claimed to be having an affair with Gledhill, reported that she confessed to the crime after Johnson confronted her about the affair on September 20.
Gledhill's confession to her lover ultimately led to her arrest and first-degree murder charge on October 15.
An anonymous informant revealed shocking details of Jennifer Gledhill's alleged crime. According to the tipster, Gledhill confessed to shooting her husband, Matthew Johnson, while he slept, then hid his body in a storage container in the attic.
Gledhill allegedly slid the container down the stairs, loaded it into her minivan, and drove to a separate location. There, she reportedly destroyed Johnson's phone and abandoned his truck.
Police reports indicate Gledhill then transported Johnson's body to a remote area, where she buried it in a shallow grave and set it ablaze.
These disturbing allegations suggest a calculated effort to conceal the crime and dispose of Johnson's remains.
According to the informant, Jennifer Gledhill believed he would maintain her secret, often joking, “Let me get my shovel!” when discussing hypothetical confidential matters, implying she would keep secrets at all costs.
Detectives learned that Gledhill's family allegedly attempted to cover up evidence. A witness reported seeing them cleaning her house until 11 p.m. on September 24, three days after Matthew Johnson's murder.
Additionally, investigators discovered that a relative purchased a new mattress for Gledhill at her request. Authorities later found this mattress during their search, along with:
Reddish-brown stains on walls and bed frame
Bleach marks on stairs
The couple's children face a devastating reality: their mother's alleged involvement in their father's tragic death, leaving grandparents struggling to break the news.
The accused father, Ted Glenhill said, “the three children are living with us for the time being.
“They are doing okay, but my wife and I have not told them everything.
“We told them their father is missing and the police are questioning their mother because they think she may know something about it.”
Jennifer Gledhill remains in custody without bail, awaiting a court date to be set for her initial appearance.
