A fatal train collision occurred in Wales on Monday, October 21, resulting in one death and 15 hospitalizations. The incident took place around 7:30 p.m. near the village of Llanbrynmair.
According to Dyfed-Powys Police, the deceased was a male, and the injuries sustained by the 15 hospitalized passengers are not considered life-threatening or life-altering. Authorities confirmed that all remaining passengers were safely evacuated from both trains.
The British Transport Police (BTP) reported, “officers were called after reports of a low-speed train collision involving two trains.” The investigation is ongoing, with emergency services working together to determine the cause of the accident.
“Paramedics, fire and rescue and Dyfed Powys Police were sent to the scene.”
Superintendent of the BTP, Andrew Morgan said, “we can sadly confirm a man has died following this evening's incident.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to his loved ones, alongside everyone else impacted and specialist officers continue to provide support.”
The National Police Air Service (NPAS) West and Wales Region deployed a helicopter to support emergency response efforts following the train collision.
A combined statement from Network Rail and Transport for Wales stated that, “the incident involved the 6.31pm service from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and the 7.09pm service from Machynlleth to Shrewsbury.”
Adding that, “we would encourage passengers to plan ahead and check journeys before travelling via National Rail Enquiries.”
