Ghana police apprehend notorious Nigerian human trafficking kingpin, accused of exploiting over 3,000 women & girls, after 10-year manhunt.

A notorious human trafficker known as “Pussy Mama” has finally been caught after evading authorities for over a decade. The 38-year-old Nigerian man was remanded by the Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court in Ghana on October 9 for allegedly trafficking over 3,000 young girls and boys from Nigeria to Ghana, Mali, and other countries for prostitution.

What's shocking is that he had been on the wanted lists of both Nigerian and Ghanaian police for more than ten years due to his suspected involvement in human trafficking. Some investigators believe his ability to evade capture for so long may be linked to his alleged use of “juju,” a traditional form of spiritual protection.

The accused was eventually arrested at Buduburam in the Central Region of Ghana, bringing an end to his decade-long reign of terror. His arrest is a significant milestone in the fight against human trafficking in West Africa.

The suspect's modus operandi involved luring victims with promises of high-paying jobs, only to force them into sex work in various locations, including hostels and nightclubs in Kasoa, Buduburam, and surrounding areas in Ghana. These victims were subjected to unimaginable exploitation and hardship.

His luck ran out during a recent operation when he was caught by a young female police officer while attempting to transport another group of young girls from Nigeria to Ghana for prostitution. This arrest marks a significant milestone in the fight against human trafficking.

The suspect was arraigned before the Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Under the supervision of His Lordship Isaac Oheneba Kuffour, the court ordered that he be held in police custody, bringing an end to his decade-long reign of terror.

A notorious human trafficking suspect is set to return to court on Friday, October 18. The suspect's capture was praised by Emmanuel Azubuike, Central Regional Chairman of the Nigerian Community and Africa Coordinator for the International Human Rights Observatory (IHRO), who commended the police for their bravery.

Azubuike highlighted the accused's history of evading custody and urged the Ghana Police Service (GPS) and the Chief Justice to remain vigilant to prevent another escape. This call to action emphasizes the importance of vigilance in ensuring justice is served, especially given the suspect's notorious past.

The Ghana Police Service has specialized units, including the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) and the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), which work to prevent and respond to crimes like human trafficking. These units play a crucial role in protecting vulnerable individuals and bringing perpetrators to justice.
