Beyond Heartbreak with Agatha Amata

“Some people still say that they pray and I will get back together...”

Agatha Amata opens up about life after divorce from actor Fred Amata, revealing how she prioritized raising their children & rebuilt her life, on #WithChude.

19 years post-divorce, media mogul Agatha Amata reveals that many still hold onto hopes of her reuniting with ex-husband, actor Fred Amata.

Agatha, CEO of Rave TV Lagos and Trend FM100.9 Asaba, ended her marriage to Fred in 2005. They share two children, Oreva and Stephanie.

Three years after their split, Fred welcomed a daughter, Zino, with actress and former beauty queen Ibinabo Fiberisima in London.

Agatha Amata's groundbreaking talk show, 'Inside Out with Agatha,' has cemented her status as a household name, boasting over two decades on air as Nigeria's longest-running television talk show.

In a candid conversation with Chude Jideonwo on '#WithChude,' Agatha opened up about her journey as a single mother, navigating the aftermath of her divorce, and other personal struggles.

Agatha revealed that despite nearly two decades since her split, some individuals still cling to the hope of her reuniting with ex-husband Fred Amata. Shockingly, she disclosed that some have even suggested she prioritize reconciliation over her children's well-being.

“Some people still say that they pray and I will get back together.

“I meet these people every day.

“I know that everybody wishes you well, but I always say to people, you can't expect me better than I want myself.

“So if on my wedding day, as I was dancing and rejoicing, I certainly had no plans to leave the marriage.” She said.

Agatha Amata noted that marriage is typically entered into with optimism and commitment, not the expectation of divorce.

“Let me say clearly, an unhappy home can never breed happy children.

“It's not possible.

“If anything, it is going to injure those children and their outlook and their approach to marriage.

“The best you can do is for both of you to try to remain friends, as difficult as it may be, which is what I tried to do,” Agatha added.

“I've resigned myself to the reality that whenever Fred Amata's name is mentioned, mine will inevitably follow, courtesy of our marital history and our two kids.”

“Amata's ex-wife, that's how I'll always be introduced.

“It doesn't matter what happens; even if I remarry, they'll likely introduce me as 'the former wife of Fred Amata.”

Agatha Amata, who spent her formative years partly in Kano, has embraced her public identity tied to Fred Amata, choosing to focus on her personal growth.

On the show, the 55-year-old media mogul revealed that she put aspects of her life on hold to prioritize raising her children, pouring her energy into their upbringing.

She concluded by saying, “I stopped everything and focused on my children.

“If you look around, even in my office, their bed was there.

“Even when I sent them abroad to study, every month I was in their school.

“If they had Parents Day, I was there.

“They had anything they had to do and I was there.”
