Kano Man Jailed for 7 Years Over Child Sexual Exploitation

Kano Court Delivers Justice for Child Victim

“The defendant had sex with the survivor on three different occasions...”

Nasiru Isa sentenced to 7 years in prison for sexually exploiting 11-year-old girl in Kano State, with additional N1 million fine.

Nasiru Isa, a 33-year-old resident of Darmanawa Bayan Gidan Kallo in Tarauni Local Government Area, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually exploiting an 11-year-old girl. Justice S.M. Shu'aibu of the Kano Division of the Federal High Court delivered the verdict on Monday, after Isa pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of sexual exploitation.

The prosecution, led by Abdullahi Babale, presented a strong case that proved Isa's guilt beyond reasonable doubt. As a result, Justice Shu'aibu summarily tried and sentenced Isa to seven years in prison without the option of a fine. This ruling reflects the severity of the crime and the need to protect vulnerable individuals, particularly children, from sexual exploitation.

“The defendant had sex with the survivor on three different occasions: once in the defendant's wife's room and twice at an uncompleted building,” he told the court.

“The defendant gave the survivor bread, groundnuts and N20 before sexually exploiting her.”

The prosecution presented two crucial exhibits to prove their case against Nasiru Isa, the 33-year-old defendant convicted of sexually exploiting an 11-year-old girl. These exhibits included Isa's confessional statement and the brave testimony of the young survivor. This compelling evidence led to Isa's conviction.

According to prosecutor Abdullahi Babale, Isa's actions flagrantly violated Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015. Consequently, Isa faced punishment under Section 26(1) of the TIP ACT 2015. This legislation provides stringent penalties for those who exploit and harm vulnerable individuals, particularly children.

This ruling demonstrates the commitment to protecting children from sexual exploitation and abuse in Nigeria. Similar cases have resulted in significant prison sentences, such as the 14-year imprisonment of a 67-year-old Lebanese national convicted of exploiting teenage girls in Kano.
