A devastating petrol tanker explosion occurred along the Kano-Hadejia expressway in Jigawa state's Taura Local Government Area, resulting in significant loss of life and injuries. The incident unfolded late Tuesday night, October 15, at approximately 11:45pm and persisted until 3:15am on Wednesday, October 16.


The tanker blast triggered a massive inferno, claiming multiple lives and leaving at least 50 people severely injured. Eyewitnesses described the fire's rapid spread, causing widespread destruction and overwhelming emergency responders.


Although authorities have yet to confirm the official death toll, rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing. The situation remains dire, with emergency services working tirelessly to provide aid and contain the aftermath.


The fuel-laden tanker crashed in Majiya village, resulting in over 100 deaths and 50 injuries. The devastating incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16.


According to eyewitnesses, villagers were scooping fuel from the fallen tanker when the explosion happened, making the situation even more catastrophic. Lawal Shiisu Adams, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident, stating, “Today Wednesday, a petrol tanker from Port Harcourt going to Nguru in Yobe state reached Majiya village of Taura local government area at around 12:30 a.m., the driver lost control at Majiya and fell down.”


Efforts are currently underway to identify the victims and provide medical assistance to those injured. Rescue teams and emergency services are working tirelessly to support the affected families and community.
