EPL: Wood's Double Sinks Leicester as Nottingham Forest Rise to Fifth
Chris Wood's clinical finishing sealed a dominant 3-1 win for Nottingham Forest at Leicester, moving them up to fifth in the Premier League. Wood's brace punished Leicester's errors.
Nottingham Forest leapfrogged to fifth in the Premier League table after a convincing 3-1 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. Chris Wood's second-half double proved decisive, capitalizing on costly mistakes by his former club.
Ryan Yates opened the scoring for Forest in the 16th minute with a 20-yard strike, but Jamie Vardy equalized shortly after. However, Wood's precision finishing sealed the win, taking his league tally to seven goals this season.
Leicester's errors proved detrimental to their chances. Facundo Buonanotte's hesitation led to Yates' opener, while Wood's goals resulted from the hosts' sloppy play. Wout Faes's mishandling of a long clearance gifted Wood his second.
Forest's solid display extended their unbeaten run to eight games, with only one loss in their opening nine matches. The win marked Steve Cooper's first defeat against his former club since being sacked last December.
In contrast, Leicester's search for a third consecutive Premier League win since January 2021 continues. Currently 14th, they face Ipswich next, seeking to distance themselves from relegation contenders.
Nottingham Forest's resurgence under Nuno Espirito Santo continues, building on Cooper's foundations. With the second-best defense in the division and Wood's impressive goal-scoring form, Forest's prospects look bright.
