Enugu Radio Station Raid: EFCC arrests presenter Favour Ekoh over ponzi scheme allegations, amidst controversy.

Operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed Urban Radio 94.5FM in Enugu on Monday, October 14, during a live broadcast of the “Prime Time” program, arresting presenter Favour Ekoh. The raid occurred around 6:45 pm, with the EFCC agents allegedly forcing their way into the studio, seizing communication equipment, and taking Ekoh away without explanation.

Urban Radio 94.5FM issued an apology to its listeners on Tuesday, October 15, for the disruption caused by the raid. The station expressed regret over the abrupt halt of its live programming and assured listeners that they would be kept informed about the situation as it developed.

However, the EFCC has clarified that the raid was part of an investigation into Ekoh's alleged involvement in a Ponzi scheme worth N700 million. According to the EFCC, Ekoh had promised investors high returns on their investments through a company called Leverage Index Limited, but the company suddenly shut down, leaving around 50 victims financially stranded. The EFCC has condemned the radio station's interference with their operations and questioned Ekoh's professional integrity.

Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, has clarified the commission's actions regarding the recent raid on Urban Radio 94.5FM in Enugu. According to Oyewale, the agency's operatives were at the station to arrest Favour Ekoh, a presenter, for allegedly involvement in a Ponzi scheme that defrauded 103 Nigerians.

Oyewale emphasized that only Ekoh was arrested and denied allegations that communication equipment was seized during the operation. He explained that the agency had tracked Ekoh to the station after she ignored multiple invitations to cooperate with the investigation.

This development sheds light on the controversy surrounding the EFCC's raid on the radio station. While Urban Radio initially reported that armed men identifying as EFCC agents forcibly removed Ekoh and seized equipment without explanation, Oyewale's statement provides context for the agency's actions.
