Cabinet Reshuffle: President Tinubu Streamlines Governance, Dissolves Niger Delta and Sports Ministries
President Bola Tinubu has made some significant changes to his cabinet, merging and dissolving several ministries. Following the Federal Executive Council meeting on October 23, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga announced that the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development have been dissolve.
Additionally, Tinubu has approved the consolidation of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy. This move is part of a broader cabinet reshuffle that has sparked discussion amid Nigeria's economic challenges. The reshuffle includes seven new members, five dismissals, and ten reassignments, with key ministers retained and notable departures from the education and tourism ministries.
Merged and Dissolved Ministries:
Dissolved Ministries:
- Ministry of Niger Delta
- Ministry of Sports Development
Consolidated Ministries:
- Ministry of Tourism (now merged with Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy)
These changes come as Tinubu's economic policies have led to high inflation, affecting citizens' cost of living.
"President Tinubu and Federal Executive Council scrap Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of sports development.
“There will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, North East Development Commission.
“The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports.
“The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy,” Onanuga said.
