TikTok's latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, released on October 15, reveals that over 2.1 million videos were removed in Nigeria during Q2 2024 for violating platform policies.


This massive takedown underscores TikTok's dedication to enhancing content moderation and fostering a secure environment for users. Notably, the removed videos represent less than 1% of total Nigerian uploads during the reviewed period.


Key findings show that 99.1 percent of these videos were proactively removed before users reported them, with 90.7 percent taken down within 24 hours. These figures highlight TikTok's commitment to staying ahead of harmful content, ensuring a safer platform for Nigerian users,” the report noted.


TikTok, a Chinese-owned video platform, has reiterated its pledge to bolster content moderation through cutting-edge technologies. These advancements will enhance risk detection and foster a secure environment for its diverse user base in Nigeria and worldwide.


“With a proactive detection rate now at 98.2 percent globally, TikTok is more efficient than ever at addressing harmful content before users encounter it,” the short-form mobile video platform stated.


Globally, TikTok demonstrated its commitment to transparency and platform security by removing 178 million videos in June 2024. Notably, automated systems drove 144 million of these takedowns, underscoring the platform's reliance on technology to maintain a safe community.
