UEL: Manchester United Held to Frustrating Draw by Twente in Europa League Opener

Christian Eriksen's superb strike wasn't enough as Manchester United drew 1-1 with Twente in their Europa League opener, with Sam Lammers equalizing after capitalizing on Eriksen's mistake.

Manchester United's Europa League campaign got off to a disappointing start as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Twente at Old Trafford.

Christian Eriksen's excellent first-half goal looked set to secure all three points for Erik ten Hag's side. However, the Danish midfielder's mistake allowed Sam Lammers to equalize for the Dutch visitors.

Eriksen's opener was a highlight-reel moment, with the midfielder collecting a pass from Bruno Fernandes and unleashing a powerful shot into the far corner.

Despite dominating possession, United struggled to create clear-cut chances against a resilient Twente outfit. The visitors' equalizer came when Lammers dispossessed Eriksen outside the United box and fired a blistering effort past Andre Onana.

United pushed for a winner, with Joshua Zirkzee and Bruno Fernandes going close, but Twente goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall produced crucial saves to deny them.

The draw extends United's unbeaten run to four games, but they face a tricky trip to Porto next. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford impressed interim England boss Lee Carsley, who watched from the directors' box.
