A dramatic rescue unfolded on the Third Mainland Bridge on Friday when Lagos police intervened to stop a 59-year-old man from taking his own life. The swift action of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) saved the man, who was in his 50s, from committing suicide.


According to the RRS, the incident occurred at approximately 12 pm on Friday. The timely intervention of the police operatives prevented the tragic loss of life, providing a second chance for the distressed individual.


Details of the incident remain scarce, but the successful prevention of this suicide attempt highlights the critical role of law enforcement in safeguarding public safety and mental health.


“RRS bike riders on routine patrol on the Third Mainland Bridge prevented a man from jumping into the lagoon,” the RRS said.


“The man, a resident of Ilasa area of the state, stated that he was overwhelmed by challenges.”


After foiling the suicide attempt, RRS Commander CSP Shola Jejeloye provided counseling to the 59-year-old man and ordered his placement in protective custody until his family members arrive.
