French husband Dominique Pelicot admits to drugging wife Gisele, facilitating 92 rapes by 72 men. 18 suspects in custody, 14 admit guilt. Pelicot faces additional charges for 1991 murder and 1999 rape. Trial expected to conclude in December.
A shocking case in France has come to light, involving 73-year-old Dominique Pelicot, who confessed to drugging his wife, Gisele, and allowing numerous men to sexually assault her in their home over several years. This disturbing scenario unfolded in the couple's marital bed, with Pelicot facilitating the attacks.
The first of 50 defendants, 43-year-old Lionel Rodriguez, has testified in court. Rodriguez claimed he believed Gisele was a willing participant despite witnessing her stir during the assault and being asked to leave the room. However, this defense is strongly contested, as Gisele was semi-conscious due to the drugs administered by her husband.
Dominique Pelicot, now notoriously known as “the Monster of Avignon,” has admitted to orchestrating these heinous crimes. He used online forums to share his dark fantasies and connect with men, including Rodriguez, who would ultimately carry out the assaults. Over 40 years of marriage, Pelicot exploited and betrayed his wife's trust in the most horrific manner imaginable.
During the investigation, authorities found disturbing footage on Dominique Pelicot's computer, documenting the assaults. This crucial evidence helped identify 50 of the 82 perpetrators, while 32 remain at large.
Lionel Rodriguez and Dominique Pelicot initially met on the now-defunct online forum (link unavailable) in 2018. Rodriguez testified that Dominique mentioned using pills, but claimed it was unclear if Gisele took them voluntarily.
Upon arrival at Dominique's residence, Rodriguez found Gisele naked and seemingly unconscious. Despite this, he proceeded with the assault. However, when Gisele showed signs of stirring, Dominique instructed Rodriguez to leave the room.
In court, Dominique confessed that his wife was unaware of his actions and had been drugged. This disturbing revelation came to light after Dominique's arrest in September 2020 for secretly filming women in a supermarket.
Following his arrest, police searched Dominique's devices and discovered a staggering collection of thousands of photos and videos documenting the rapes, spanning nearly a decade (2011-2020). These disturbing records exposed the full extent of Dominique's heinous crimes.
Investigation Reveals Widespread Abuse
Detectives uncovered 92 instances of rape involving 72 men, aged 26 to 73. Of these, 51 suspects have been identified, with 18 currently in custody and the remaining suspects, including Lionel Rodriguez, released on bail.
Alleged Modus Operandi
Prosecutors allege that Dominique Pelicot sedated his wife, Gisele, by secretly administering Temesta in her meals, rendering her vulnerable to abuse.
Diverse Group of Defendants
The accused include individuals from various professions, such as civil servants, a journalist, prison guards, and others, highlighting the shocking scope of the case.
Additional Charges Against Dominique
Dominique faces separate charges for the 1991 rape and murder of a 23-year-old Parisian estate agent, as well as a 1999 rape linked to him through DNA evidence.
Trial Progress
The trial, expected to conclude in December, has seen 14 defendants admit to rape, while the remaining defendants deny the charges. The complex case continues to unfold.
