Kwara State Polytechnic restructures Mass Communication and Computer Science programs, appoints new heads, and pledges support for effective implementation, enhancing specialization and industry relevance.
Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has restructured its Higher National Diploma (HND) programs in Mass Communication and Computer Science.
According to a statement by the institution's Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Halimat Garba, the unbundling of the courses aligns with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)'s directive.
Rector Dr. Abdul Mohammed explained that the decision aims to enhance specialization and quality education, ensuring the polytechnic's programs meet NBTE's standards.
“The decision which is aimed at enhancing the quality and relevance of technical education, will take effect from the 2024/2025 academic session,” the rector said.
According to Mohammed, the unbundling of Mass Communication and Computer Science programs was driven by the need to meet global ICT industry demands and produce graduates with specialized skills tailored to national needs.
Mohammed further explained that the unbundling will enable students to specialize in their chosen field, acquiring in-depth knowledge and skills that are highly sought after by employers.
He clarified that as a result of the unbundling, the combined Mass Communication and Computer Science program will no longer be offered at the Higher National Diploma (HND) level, giving way to separate specialized programs.
The Rector announced that the management has appointed new heads for the newly created programs emerging from Mass Communication and Computer Science, ensuring leadership and guidance for the revamped departments.
He pledged that the institution will provide all necessary resources and support to the new departments, guaranteeing a seamless and effective implementation of the new programs, and enabling them to thrive.
