Kaduna Invests N340m in Yar'adua University's Power Restoration

N340m Electricity Boost for Yar'adua University

“The university's senate has, at its special meeting, reviewed the progress made on the repairs of electricity supply to the university...”

Kaduna State invests N340m to restore electricity at Umaru Musa Yar'adua University (UMYUK) after vandalism, ending mid-semester break extension due to power outages.

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has given the green light for the release of over N340 million to restore electricity at Umaru Musa Yar'adua University (UMYUK).

According to Abdullahi Aliyu-Yar'adua, Press Director at the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the governor's approval covers two separate electricity projects aimed at improving the university's power supply.

“Firstly, the replacement of a 33KVA indoor control panel and other accessories which supply power to the school at the cost of over N260 million, and also the installation of solar security lights awarded at the cost of over N98 million,” he said.

The Katsina State Government's decision to release N340 million for electricity projects at UMYUK aims to tackle vandalism and insecurity, according to Abdullahi Aliyu-Yar'adua.

Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, stated that Governor Radda's swift approval seeks to restore a conducive learning environment and address recent power outages.

Faskari quoted: “Governor Radda is deeply concerned about the university's power outage and has directed immediate action to resolve the issue.”

“Radda appreciated the various efforts of the management and the understanding exhibited by the staff and students of the university while trying to restore the power supply.”

UMYUK prolongs mid-semester break due to electricity supply challenges.

“The university's senate has, at its special meeting, reviewed the progress made on the repairs of electricity supply to the university, which apparently shows that the earlier date given for resumption, Monday, Sept. 16, is not tenable,” it had said.

“In view of the above reality and as state government is working to address the fault, the university senate finds it expedient to suspend the resumption until the electricity supply is fully restored.”
