Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has introduced a new feature specifically designed to enhance the safety of users under the age of 18. Known as 'Teen Accounts', this feature aims to provide greater protection for younger users on the platform.

In a statement released on Tuesday, September 17, Meta announced that all Instagram users under the age of 18 would be automatically transitioned to these new teen accounts, which will be set to private by default.

Instagram is intensifying its safety measures to safeguard young users. The platform will now limit exposure to sensitive content, including graphic violence and videos promoting cosmetic procedures. Additionally, offensive language and phrases will be filtered out from direct message requests and comments.

As part of its broader initiative to create a safer online space for teenagers, Instagram is introducing a teen account feature. This feature encourages healthy social media habits through:

 Daily reminders to take breaks after 60 minutes of usage

'Sleep mode' (10 p.m.-7 a.m.): muting notifications and auto-responding to incoming messages

These innovations aim to protect and empower teenagers, fostering a responsible and secure online environment.

Users under 16 cannot change the teen account's default settings without their parents' permission, however users 16 and older can disable the settings without their parents' authorization. Additionally, a set of monitoring tools will be given to parents so they can keep an eye on their kids' interactions and set usage limits for apps. Rewrite every passage.
