Aston Villa produced a stunning late comeback to defeat rivals Wolves 3-1 at Villa Park, rising to third in the Premier League table.

Wolves had been the better side in the first half and took the lead through Matheus Cunha's impressive strike in the 25th minute. The winger intercepted Diego Carlos' sloppy pass and struck the ball past Emiliano Martinez.

However, Aston Villa woke up in the 73rd minute, equalizing through Ollie Watkins' deflected effort. Morgan Rogers played Watkins in, and his shot deflected off a Wolves defender, leaving Jose Sa helpless.

Defender Ezri Konsa sealed the victory with a sliding finish in the 88th minute, meeting Youri Tielemans' superb cross.

Substitute Jhon Duran tapped in a Morgan Rogers pass in injury time, securing Villa's third consecutive win.

Unai Emery's side has now won all but one match this season, demonstrating their ability to grind out victories even on off days.

Gary O'Neil's Wolves suffered their 11th defeat in 15 Premier League matches, extending their poor run. Wolves' only point this season came at Nottingham Forest, and they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Brighton in midweek.

A win over one of their arch-rivals could have been the spark Wolves needed to turn their form around. However, with matches against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Newcastle, it's fair to say their opening fixtures have been particularly tough.

Villa move up to third in the Premier League, level on points with leaders Liverpool and Manchester City.
