DSS denies involvement in Sowore's arrest, says not currently monitoring him - Read latest updates on Sowore's detention and release.
The Department of State Service (DSS) has clarified the arrest and release of Omoyele Sowore, AAC's presidential candidate, on Sunday.
Sowore was briefly detained at Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos upon his arrival from abroad, but was released shortly after.
The DSS explained that they only detained Sowore briefly and would always carry out their duties legally if an arrest is necessary.
The clarification was necessary due to reports that DSS operatives were involved in the arrest.
“I have just been released by the Nigerian Immigration after a brief detention and my passport released back to me,” he posted.
A DSS official clarified that the agency is not currently monitoring or pursuing Sowore, contradicting speculation about ongoing surveillance or pursuit.
