ABC News Accused of Aiding Harris in Debate

Former US President Donald Trump alleges ABC News will provide Vice President Kamala Harris with debate questions in advance, sparking accusations of bias and cheating.

Former US President Donald Trump has made a contentious claim that ABC News will assist Vice President Kamala Harris in cheating during their upcoming presidential election debate. Trump made this allegation while appearing on a Fox News town hall on Wednesday, September 4.

During the town hall, Trump suggested that the Disney-owned television network, ABC News, would provide Harris with debate questions in advance, potentially giving her an unfair advantage. Trump's claim has sparked controversy and raised concerns about the integrity of the debate process.

“They're going to get the questions, I have already heard they're going to get the questions in advance,” Trump told Fox host in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

“I'm not sure it's gonna help her that much.”

The highly anticipated debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 10, in Philadelphia, with ABC moderators hosting the event.

Trump has expressed reservations about the debate, stating that he only agreed to participate because Harris refused to consider debates with other networks. According to Trump, Harris's team declined alternative debate proposals, leaving ABC as the only option.

In a specific instance, Fox News proposed hosting a debate on Wednesday evening, September 4, in Harrisburg, but Harris declined the invitation. Trump's team had accepted the proposal, highlighting the differing approaches to the debate arrangements.

“The other thing is, her best friend is the head of the network,” Trump said, referencing Harris' close friendship with Disney executive Dana Walden.

“Her husband's best friend is married to the head of the network.”

“ABC is the worst network in terms of fairness,” Trump lamented.

Trump alleged that ABC News deliberately skews poll results to depict him as trailing, aiming to discourage his supporters from voting by creating a perception that his candidacy is hopeless.

“They had a poll where I was 17 points down a couple of days prior to the election. I was 17 points down in Wisconsin.

“And they do that so people don't vote because people say, you know, hey, i love Trump, but he's 17 points down. I'm not going to go out and vote.

“They are the most dishonest network, the meanest, the nastiest, but that was what I was presented with,” he continued.

“I was presented with ABC.”

According to Trump, the debate contract with ABC News includes a provision that prohibits the network from sharing debate questions or topics with either candidate prior to the September 10 event.

Despite suspecting that Kamala Harris might try to obtain debate questions in advance, Donald Trump believes it won't significantly impact the outcome. Trump remains confident in his debate abilities, suggesting that Harris's potential cheating won't give her a substantial advantage.

Trump revealed that Harris had made several demands ahead of the debate, including removing microphone muting, allowing candidates to sit at desks, and permitting the use of pre-written notes. However, none of these requests were accommodated, according to Trump.

According to the ABC News debate rules, several measures will be in place to ensure a fair and structured discussion. To prevent interruptions, microphones will be muted when candidates are not speaking.

The debate format will feature candidates standing behind podiums, with no opportunity to use prepared notes or props on stage. Instead, each participant will be provided with a piece of paper, a pen, and a bottle of water.
