Kenneth Okonkwo reaffirms commitment to Labour Party...

Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent Labour Party member, leaves the party and dissociates from Peter Obi, citing concerns over leadership style and ability to address national issues and tackle corruption.

Nollywood veteran and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has dismissed rumors of his departure from the Labour Party, reaffirming his commitment to the party.

In a statement released on Tuesday, July 30, Okonkwo emphasized his loyalty to the Labour Party, putting to rest speculations about his alleged exit.

“First of all, let me say I am embarrassed by your comment. I am just hearing it from your media station that I dumped the Labour Party. And I put up the statement that I made so that it wouldn't be misconstrued. So, where did you get that from? It's not certainly from the statement that I made. I am still a full- fledged member of the Labour Party,” he stated.

When asked if he remains a member of the Labour Party, Okonkwo gave a emphatic “yes” - confirming his continued affiliation with the party.

Okonkwo continued: “There's no crisis in the Labour Party as it relates to me. There's crisis in the Labour Party as relates to the National Working Committee (of the party), which failed to organize an all-inclusive convention. And I thought that the leader ought to have taken a decisive decision to ensure, having seen that the convention did not hold against his instruction, that there's an organized and all-inclusive convention according to court judgment and past agreement.”

Kenneth Okonkwo, a notable figure in the Labour Party, announced his decision to leave the party and dissociate himself from its presidential candidate, Peter Obi. This move was prompted by Okonkwo's reservations about Obi's leadership approach and his perceived inability to effectively address Nigeria's pressing issues.

Okonkwo expressed concerns about Obi's capacity to secure electoral victories and confront the country's corrupt elites, whom he described as “kakistocrats and kleptocrats.” He emphasized the need for a leader with unwavering courage, integrity, and a strong team ethos to drive his vision for Nigeria's progress.
