Borno State imposes 24-hour curfew after deadly market explosion kills 16, injures several, attributed to Boko Haram suicide bomber, to restore law and order.
The Borno State Government has swiftly responded to the devastating explosion at Kawori Market in Konduga by imposing a 24-hour curfew across the state, effective immediately. This decisive action follows the tragic loss of 16 lives and critical injuries to many others in the blast, which occurred late on Wednesday, July 31.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion was caused by a Boko Haram suicide bomber. In the aftermath of this heinous attack, the authorities have taken swift action to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, Police Public Relations Officer, announced the curfew on Thursday, August 1, emphasizing its necessity in restoring stability and protecting citizens. The curfew will remain in place for 24 hours, allowing authorities to assess the situation and take necessary measures to prevent further incidents.
“The explosion of an improvised explosive device resulted in the deaths of 16 individuals, with several others critically injured and receiving treatment in various government hospitals across the state.
“In line with our constitutional mandate towards the restoration of law and order his Excellency the Executive Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umar Zulum in consultation with heads of security in the state, finds it's expedient to declare 24hrs curfew in the state with immediate effect.”
The PPRO added, “I, therefore, wish to call upon the good people of Borno State to remain calm and law-abiding. Further developments will be communicated to you accordingly, please,” he said.
