Soludo Launches Anti-Touting Squad to Sanitize Anambra
Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo establishes anti-touting squad to tackle criminal activities, including drug abuse, extortion, and robberies. The Special Anambra Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) has reduced criminal incidents by 15% in markets, especially Onitsha, since its introduction.
Governor Charles Soludo formed the anti-touting squad in the state for the purpose of eliminating various criminal activities, including drug abuse, handbag snatching, illegal extortion of traders, and one-time robberies, according to Hon. Solomon Chukwuebuka Onwuemene, Director of the Special Anambra Anti-Touting Squad (SASA).
Hon. Onwuemene made this revelation while briefing journalists in his Awka office on Tuesday. He said that since the unit's introduction, reports of unlawful extortion, random robberies, handbag snatching, and other criminal incidents have decreased to 15% in the state's markets, notably Onitsha and its surroundings.
He claims that the current governor Soludo government has reaffirmed its commitment to put an end to touting and create enjoyable commercial activities on the state's streets, highways, and marketplaces.
The Squad's formation aims to guarantee that there is no touting in the State.
Soludo is committed to bringing back law and order in Anambra, particularly in the areas around Onitsha.
The squad is a major step toward the governor's main commitment to the residents of the wider Onitsha area, which includes Ogbaru, Oyi, Idemili, North and South Onitsha, and Ogbaru, to restore Anambra State—known for peace and order—to its former glory as the Light of the Nation.
“Touting has affected the growth and development of Onitsha negatively, hence the establishment of the unit to end the menace.
“The agenda is to rejuvenate the values Anambra was known for.
“The administration of Governor Soludo has provided great opportunities for the youths, especially, the ongoing "One Youth, Two Skills Empowerment Programme that has lifted over five thousand youths from the streets within two years in office and it will continue.
“Establishing the Squad at the den of touts in the state, particularly in Upper Iweka, Onitsha is indeed a great idea whose time has come.
The head of SASA assures the squad that they will continue to work with other security agencies to maintain peace in the state, but he also makes an appeal to those who continue to engage in touting and criminal activity to enroll in the state government's empowerment programs so they can become productive members of society, their families, and themselves.
In addition, he urged the populace to keep praying for the governor so that he can fulfill his goal of turning Anambra into a prosperous and habitable state in Nigeria.
