NOUN Students Get New Hope for Student Loans

Student Loan Relief for NOUN Students

Student loan, a Fresh Start For NOUN Students

NOUN students can now access student loans, despite previous claims that they were ineligible. Vice Chancellor Prof. Olufemi Peters clarifies that NOUN students are eligible for the loan program, as they have JAMB registration numbers and follow the same admission processes as conventional institutions.

The complexities of student loans have been resolved for its students by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

Prof. Olufemi Peters, the vice chancellor of the university, voiced concerns about some false claims and remarks that suggest NOUN students aren't qualified for the student loan program.

Recall that the administration of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) had previously declared that students at NOUN are not qualified to qualify for the recently introduced student loan. Peters, though, asserted that the data is inaccurate and ought to be ignored.

He said that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had first challenged the information, which may have resulted in confusion but has since been rectified.

“There was a misrepresentation by JAMB on that matter, but they have since corrected it. Director of Admissions or even JAMB Registrar can attest to that.

“We always register our students with JAMB every semester, and they all possess JAMB registration number. In addition to that, we strictly follow the same admission processes with other conventional institutions.

“So, I can say for sure that our students are captor in JAMB database which is major criteria for accessing the loan. NOUN are eligible to enjoy the student loan scheme because the initial challenges that was caused by JAMB has been corrected.”

A few weeks ago, the NELFund said that students at NOUN are not eligible to apply for the students loan program since they do not have a JAMB registration number, which is a necessary requirement to access the fund.

Students at NOUN who had hoped to take advantage of the student loan opportunity to pursue further education expressed some apprehension and concerns about the situation.
