Court reinstates Philip Shaibu as Edo Deputy Governor, overturns impeachment ruling. Justice James Omotosho cites improper procedures and orders Shaibu's reinstatement, revokes new Deputy Governor's appointment.

Phillip Shaibu's impeachment as the deputy governor of Edo State was overturned by a ruling made on Wednesday, July 17, by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Philip Shaibu was ordered to be reinstated by Justice Omotosho in his ruling, citing improper procedures followed by the Edo State House of Assembly throughout the impeachment process.

The appointment of the new Deputy Governor who had taken Shaibu's place was also revoked by Justice Omotosho.

The House of Assembly's impeachment claims were found to be legally untenable by the court, and they did not meet the requirements for gross misconduct.

Moreover, Justice Omotosho instructed the Inspector General of Police to furnish the essential protection to allow Shaibu to return to work and carry out his responsibilities until the end of his term.

Phillip Shaibu's impeachment was overturned on Wednesday, July 17, by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
