Uruguay Eye Quarter-Finals After Impressive Win
Uruguay thrashes Bolivia 5-0 in Copa America, with Darwin Nunez scoring for the 7th consecutive match. Facundo Pellistri, Maximiliano Araujo, Federico Valverde, and Rodrigo Bentancur also contribute to the dominant win. Uruguay closes in on the quarter-finals with a strong performance.
Uruguay took a significant step towards the Copa America knockout stage with a dominant 5-0 victory over Bolivia, thanks in large part to the impressive performance of Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez. Nunez, 25, extended his remarkable scoring streak for his country, netting for the seventh consecutive match.
Facundo Pellistri, the Manchester United winger, opened the scoring with a close-range header in the eighth minute, setting the tone for Uruguay's convincing win. Nunez doubled the lead soon after, clipping in his 10th goal in his last seven appearances for Uruguay.
Maximiliano Araujo, the winger, added his second goal of the tournament in the 77th minute, before Real Madrid's Federico Valverde and Tottenham's Rodrigo Bentancur rounded off the win with a low finish and firm header, respectively.
Uruguay, currently ranked 14th in the FIFA world rankings, are seeking an unprecedented 16th Copa America title. With 15 titles already shared with Argentina, Uruguay are determined to make history. Manager Marcelo Bielsa, however, remains cautious, stating, “There are still several important steps to take in order to be convinced that Uruguay can reach the level we imagine with the individual talent it has... It would be incorrect to make conclusions.”
