Tinubu Pledges to Improve Nigerians' Standard of Living
My goal is to improve everyone's quality of life in Nigeria, says Tinubu
The administration of President Bola Tinubu has reiterated its commitment to raising the standard of living for all Nigerians.
The President stated that the Federal Capital Territory's (FCT) project unveilings demonstrated the potential of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking during the Outer Southern Expressway's official opening in Abuja, Tinubu traveled from Villa Roundabout to Ring Road 1. The Mahamadou Issoufou Way is the new name for it.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu, who stated that the newly built Outer Southern Expressway will improve connection, accessibility, and ease traffic congestion in addition to promoting economic growth and opening up prospects for prosperity.
Tinubu said: “I reaffirm my administration's dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all Nigerians. What is unfolding in the Federal Capital is a testament to what can be achieved by the government's Renewed Hope Agenda of quality transformation of the FCT, and indeed Nigeria.
“Issues undertaken hold profound significance for the FCT and its residents, a function of the Outer Southern Motorway will not only alleviate transport congestion and improve transportation but will also stimulate economic growth and create opportunities for prosperity.
“With the addition of four interchanges, we are enhancing connectivity and accessibility, making it easier for residents and visitors alike to navigate our beautiful capital city.”
In addition, the President commended Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, calling him a “force of nature,” but he also stated that there were still many obstacles to be conquered and chances to be explored.
“As we admire the basic infrastructure before us, let us not forget the countless hands that have laboured tirelessly to bring this project to fruition, we owe them all some gratitude. As we celebrate the unveiling of this project, let us also remember that our work is far from over; there are still many challenges to overcome, and many more opportunities to explore, but with determination, perseverance, and a shared sense of purpose, which is evident in the FCT, there is no limit to what we can achieve,” he added.
The FCT Minister, Wike, said in his speech that the project, which was initially given to Messrs CGC Construction Limited for N39.8 billion and reevaluated in 2021 for a total of N59.9 billion, has been delayed for 11 years.
He complimented the President for granting the FCT's departure from the Treasury Single Account in 2023, noting that this action had given contractors renewed faith in the FCT Administration because they would now be able to finance projects.
Wike also said that by the end of the year, the President would officially open 75 kilometers of highways across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory.
