South Korea's First Office Robot 'Commits Suicide' - Investigation Underway. The robot, which was designed to assist with daily tasks, fell down a staircase and is no longer operational. The cause of the incident is still unknown, sparking questions about robot mental health and workload.

The first administrative officer robot in South Korea was reported by the municipal council on Wednesday, June 26. The robot had fallen down a staircase and was no longer operational, causing the local media to mourn the occurrence, citing it as the nation's first robot accident.

The Gumi City Council declared that last week, when the robot fell six and a half feet (two meters) down a staircase, it was found to be unresponsive.

“According to eyewitnesses, the robot policeman was seen moving in a circular motion, appearing to be stuck in a loop, as if it had been fixed in that position permanently,” a city council official stated.

The cause of the decline has not yet been determined and is still being looked into.

“Pieces have been collected and will be analysed by the company.

“Adding that the robot had helped with daily document deliveries, city promotion, and delivered information to local residents.

“It was officially a part of the city hall, one of us It worked diligently,” the official said.

Regarding the apparent robot suicide, there are inquiries as to why the obedient civil officer would act in this way and whether the burden was too much for the robot.

The robot was one of the first units in the city to be assigned in this capacity when it was appointed in August 2023.

The robot, which was created by the California-based business Bear Robotics, which specialized in creating robot waiters, functioned from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and had a card issued by the civil service.

The Gumi City Council's robot was unique among single-story robots since it could navigate between levels and call elevators on its own.

South Korea has the highest robot density in the world, making it one of the countries that uses robots the most.

There is one industrial robot for every ten workers in the nation, according to the International Federation of Robotics.

There are currently no plans to add a second robot officer to the Gumi City Council.
