Militia Attack Leaves 100 Dead in Sudanese Village

100 people are killed in an attack on a tiny community by a Sudanese paramilitary organization.

A paramilitary organization in Sudan called the Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, is said to have attacked a small town in Wad Madani, Sudan, killing at least 100 people.

The announcement was made by the Wad Madani resistance committee, a pro-democracy group in the hamlet, which claimed to have witnessed a genocide on Wednesday following two attacks by the RSF that killed up to 100 people.

The local organization also said that throughout the attacks, the locals asked the army for assistance, but the soldiers ignored their pleas.

The RSF alleged to have assaulted the army and affiliated militia bases near Wad Madani, although it made no mention of any losses among civilians.

The village was seized by the RSF in December last year.

Following disagreements over the unification of the two forces, the paramilitary organization started battling the army in April 2023. Since then, most of western Sudan and the capital, Khartoum, have fallen under the control of the organization.

As many as 150,000 people are thought to have died so far.

Approximately nine million Sudanese have been forced to from their homes, and 25 million, or half of the nation's population, are in need of humanitarian assistance.

In the worst case, 2.5 million people are expected to die from famine, 18 million people will experience severe food insecurity, and almost 4 million children would suffer from acute malnutrition, according to expert projections.

Alarmingly, experts warn that in the most dire scenarios, the consequences of famine could be catastrophic, with:

•  Up to 2.5 million lives lost

•  18 million people facing severe food insecurity

• Nearly 4 million children suffering from acute malnutrition

These stark projections highlight the urgent need for action to mitigate the crisis and prevent devastating outcomes.
