FUTMinna Ranks High in TETFUND Funding for Research

FUTMinna is ranked second in Nigeria for research funds from the University TETFUND.

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND)-sponsored National Research Funds (NRF) recently awarded research grants, ranking the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, second among Nigerian universities.

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) in Nigeria established the research window through which the grant is made.

This was said by Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice Chancellor of FUTMinna, at the opening of a three-day workshop titled “The Application of Nanotechnology for Sustainable Development," which was organized by the Africa Center of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food Safety and the Nanotechnology Research Group at the university's main campus in Minna, the capital of Niger State.

The Vice Chancellor, through Engnr. Professor Abdullahi Mohammed, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, said that FUT Minna was established not only to grant degrees but also to conduct outstanding research and innovate in ways that directly impact Nigeria's development. For this reason, the Vice Chancellor said, FUT Minna should be viewed as a first-generation university rather than a third-generation one.

However, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta pointed out that the Federal University of Technology Minna should have received credit for its contributions to higher education and humanity, emphasizing that they will keep up their support and encouragement for the institution's research and development to succeed.

Prof. Hussaini Anthony Makun, the Leader of the Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food Safety at FUT Minna, argued in his speech that advancement is impossible without nanotechnology.

On the other hand, Prof. Hussaini Anthony Makun clarified how nanotechnology is affecting all areas of human endeavor, stating that “it is strategic that whatever material you intend to use for a product, you need nanotechnology knowledge and skills to function effectively” and praising the vice chancellor of FUT Minna for his backing of technological advancements.

Prof. Jimoh Oladejo Tijani, the Research Team Leader, also spoke, explaining that Southern Africa, Egypt, Kenya, and Morocco are just a few of the nations that have benefited greatly from the adoption of nanotechnology research for rather some time.

In his introductory remarks, Prof. Moses Aderemi Olutoye, Director of Research Innovation and Development at FUT Minna, described the workshop as timely, particularly given the presence of learned individuals who will be presenting papers at it, including Associate Prof. Olushola Sunday Ayanda of the Department of Industrial Chemistry at Federal University Oye Ekiti and Prof. Sabelo Mhlanga, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sabinono LTD, Nelson Mandela University South Africa.
