GoFundMe established by Mr. Ibu's friends and family to pay for his funeral expenses.

The actor has away, and his funeral was scheduled on June 28, 2024, according to his family.

On March 2, 2024, Mr. Ibu passed away at Evercare Hospital in Lagos following a heart arrest that necessitated the amputation of one of his legs. He spent months in the hospital.

The actor's relatives and friends formed the central planning committee, which announced a five-day funeral. They then issued a public call for money to help fund the actor's dignified burial.

A joint statement from Monday Diamond, the chairman of the Central Planning Committee; Christy Ejiofor, the secretary of the committee; and Emeka Rollas, the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, stated that the illness that ultimately claimed the actor's life cost millions of naira, which is why they were requesting financial support.

It said as follows: “The Central Planning Committee of Late John Okafor (family and friends) solicit financial support from the general public to help them execute a successful burial for the late Nollywood legend.

“Mr Ibu suffered an ailment which consumed tens of millions (of naira) through hospital bills for almost a year.”

“Mr Ibu, who passed away at the age of 62, left a lasting legacy in Nollywood. The planned events aim to honour his contributions to the industry and celebrate his life. The CPC urges the public to support this cause to give Mr Ibu the farewell he deserves,” the committee stated, while providing a Zenith Bank where the funds could be sent to.

The funeral arrangements will start with a novelty match between Nollywood and Rangers International on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, as per the announcement issued by Sunday Okafor on behalf of the family.

In addition, on Wednesday, June 26, the actor will be honored with a candlelight parade; a wake will be conducted at the actor's compound in Eziokwe Amurri, Enugu State.
