Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has delegated authority to his deputy, Umar Kadafur, to operate as the state's governor while he takes a month-long vacation.

Governor Zulum will be going on vacation, according to an executive communication read out by Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, during a Friday, June 7 emergency session of the House.

Lawan said that Kadafur will serve as governor from June 10 to July 8, 2024, and that the governor's decision was compliant with the pertinent provisions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria's 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The Speaker went on to say that the action was required to ensure that the state's operations would continue to function normally in the event that the governor was not present.

Governor Zulum commended the friendly cooperation and mutual understanding between the State's Legislative and Executive branches of government.

Recall that Zulum had delegated authority to his deputy in a similar manner during his first term, when he conducted the yearly Hajj ritual.
