Ayodeji Gbeleyi has been named director-general of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) by President Bola Tinubu.

The president's special adviser on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, announced this in a statement on Saturday.

Gbeleyi is a well-known financial expert and professional accountant, according to Ngelale.

The spokesman claims that he is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) as well as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Ngelale said: “He is also an alumnus of executive programmes of the prestigious London Business School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and Lagos Business School.

“He has over 30 years of post- qualification experience in diverse sectors, including manufacturing, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), investment & commercial banking, project finance, telecommunications, infrastructure, and public administration.

“He was the board Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and Commissioner of Finance in Lagos State from 2013 to 2015.”

According to Tinubu, he anticipates that Gbeleyi would leverage his extensive experience and expertise to fortify the agency's position as the primary national hub for capacity building.

The president further asked Gbeleyi to maintain reforms by encouraging a competitive economy led by the private sector, guaranteeing social accountability and effective use of public resources.

Tinubu gave Gbeleyi instructions to promote fiduciary discipline and efficient corporate governance in both the public and private sectors.
