How playing a “nude” role in “Glamour Girls” impacted Zack Orji's marriage and church attendance

Actor Zack Orji of Nollywood has spoken out about the influence his part in the popular 1990s movie “Glamour Girls” had on his marriage, particularly on the nude scene he filmed with co-star Eucharia Anunobi.

He disclosed that the incident generated unfavorable rumors and gossip that had an impact on his marriage and even resulted in his pastor suspending him from the church.

Orji admitted that he had problems with his wife, saying, “They were putting a lot of things on her mind, even though she's an actress.”

Orji disclosed that he was suspended after his pastor got in touch with him and brought up a number of alarming information about the problem.

“My pastor invited me. Then I was a member of the Board of Trustees of the church. He said that he had been receiving too many calls from members from other members of the Board of Trustees. 'How can Zack go and do this kind of thing? it is scandalous.'

“He said he called me because he wanted to suspend me but he wanted to inform me first of all before suspending so eventually I was suspended for a month. He said he was not going to tell anybody that it was just between us but that I was suspended from doing any church activities at the time.”

Orji revealed that the event caused him to quit the church, and he asked for his name to be taken off of the Board of Trustees list and any associated paperwork.

Orji declared that his decision was definitive and that he had made up his mind to go on, even though the pastor later got in touch with him to say that they had withdrawn the suspension and didn't want him to go.

Regarding his regrets for performing the part, he replied, “No.”

The controversial and provocative portrayal of sex work and gender issues in Chika Onukwufor's 1994 two-part film “Glamour Girls” generated discussions and debates in Nigeria.

Along with a controversial bathtub scene starring Orji and Anunobi, the picture had a famous cast that includes Liz Benson, Ngozi Ezeonu, Pat Attah, and Ernest Obi.

“We looked like we were naked but we were not. She wasn't naked. I wasn't naked but it was so well done because first of all as an actor, your primary job is not only to create the illusion of being someone else in the minds of the audience, but it is also your job to create believability in the minds of your audience that whatever they watch you do, they believe that it is real,” the actor said.
