UK notifies NCAA that Air Peace may have violated a safety requirement

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has received notification from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) about purported aviation safety rule infractions by Air Peace.

This happened only three months after the Nigerian carrier started operating the Lagos-London route.

It was reported that two necessary occurrence reports pertaining to Air Peace were sent to the UK CAA. These complaints were then forwarded to the NCAA by the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

“United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report with reference number: CAA-UK, -2024-0217” and “NATS Management System Safety Report” were the titles of the complaint letter that the CAA sent to the NCAA.

The NCAA has responded to Air Peace in response, asking for more information on the points brought up.

The letter, titled “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report” and bearing reference number NCAA/DOLTS/APL/Vol.11/03624, was signed by Capt. O.O. Lawani, the NCAA General Manager of Operations, and dated May 14, 2024.

The NCAA letter made clear that the UK CAA had alerted it to the lack of operational certification for Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) operations, which could have an effect on the aircraft's ability to operate safely. Furthermore, the flight's captain acknowledged utilizing an EFB for navigation.

Additionally, the NCAA cited the UK CAA's letter stating that there are no charging outlets or batteries for the EFB, nor a mounting solution for its use.
