“When I met Jay-Z, he ran to his room and screamed at the top of his voice out of excitement. He's a very charming and sweet man,” says Tiwa Savage.

I still remember the day I met Jay-Z like it was yesterday. I was signing with Roc Nation, and I was a bit nervous, but as soon as I walked into the room, Jay-Z's warm energy put me at ease. He ran to his room and screamed with excitement, like a kid on Christmas morning It was infectious, and I couldn't help but laugh and feel a sense of joy.

“I met Jay-Z in person for the first time the day I signed to Roc Nation. Jay Z behaved like he didn't literally even know that he is Jay-Z, meeting him was like meeting a common person. Jay-Z was very charming and very sweet. Jay-Z is sweet, very intelligent and he knows alot about music. He's very interested in the continent and that's beautiful. Unlike other international labels who after signing you rebrand you and even control your music style, Jay-Z's aim was just to market the African culture which I represented in my music.” Tiwa Savage.

However, what struck me most about Jay-Z was his humility. Despite being one of the most successful artists and entrepreneurs in the world, he carried himself with a quiet confidence and a willingness to learn. He didn't act like he was aware of his own iconic status, and instead, treated me like an equal, asking questions and seeking my input.

Our conversation was like a breath of fresh air. He was genuinely interested in my music, my culture, and my story. He wanted to know more about the African continent and how he could help amplify our voices. He was passionate about promoting our culture and supporting artists from the continent, and it was beautiful to see.

Unlike other international labels that try to rebrand you and control your music style, Jay-Z's approach was different. He wanted to help me share my unique sound and style with the world, without trying to change me to fit a certain mold. He saw something in me that he believed in, and he wanted to help me share that with the world.

Meeting Jay-Z was a turning point in my career, and I'll always be grateful for the opportunity to work with him. He's a true legend, and an even better person.
