President Tinubu to Deliver Historic Address at NASS Joint Sitting
Tinubu will give a speech before a joint session of the National Assembly on May 29, to commemorate 25 years of Nigerian democracy.
President Bola Tinubu will address a joint sitting of the National Assembly on Wednesday, May 28, providing an update on the state of the nation to both the Senate and House of Representatives.
The purpose of the combined sitting is to celebrate 25 years of continuous democracy in Nigeria.
Senate and House of Representatives joint sessions are infrequent and usually only take place when the president presents the budget.
President Bola Tinubu will inaugurate the National Assembly library and give a speech on the status of the country at the joint sitting, according to a statement released by Magaji Tambawal, the clerk to the National Assembly.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor of Kwara Abdul Rahman Abdul Rasaq, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, Governor of Imo Hope Uzodinma, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume are also anticipated at the meeting.
Femi Gbajabiamila, the President's Chief of Staff, and Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory's Minister, are among the others anticipated to attend.
David Mark, the President of the Sixth and Seventh Senates from 2007 to 2015, will talk on “Reflections on the Senate,” while Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the Ninth House from 2019 to 2023, will present a paper on “Reflections on the House.”
The former head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar, will also present a paper titled “Reflections on the Journey to Democracy.”
