Obi Urged to Look Beyond Northern Politicians for Support
“Don't depend on a presidential coalition with lawmakers from the north,” Ohanaeze to Obi
The Igbo-socio cultural group Ohanaeze Ndigbo claims that actions taken by Labour Party (LP) chairman Peter Obi “aimed at forging an alliance with northern politicians” may have unfavorable effects.
This group is not the same as the one headed by the elder statesman, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
The group's secretary-general, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, stated in a statement that Obi's attempt to stand with politicians from the north may endanger the Igbo people's desire for presidential candidacy.
Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, and Sule Lamido, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a former governor of Jigawa, met with Obi on Monday in Abuja.
In the 2023 presidential election, Obi secured third place, trailing behind Abubakar, who emerged as the runner-up.
Peter Obi made a suggestion in November 2023 that he might run for president once more in 2027.
