Ningi's Senate Seat Reinstated After Suspension
Senate recalls suspended Bauchi Senator, Abdul Ningi
The proposal to recall Ningi was adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 28, during the plenary session. Senator Patrick Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader and representative of the Benue South senatorial constituency, had proposed the motion.
The motion, entitled ‘Unconditional Recall of Senator Abdul Ningi,’ called on the Senate to bring back Senator Ningi, who was suspended on March 12, 2024, for a period of three months. His unfounded claim on March 9 that the 2024 budget was padded by N3.7 trillion led to this suspension.
The Senate Committee on Appropriations Chairman, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, submitted a motion of urgent national importance that led to his suspension. Senator Ningi's wrongdoing, unethical behavior, and violations of legislative procedures resulted in his suspension.
The sole purpose of Senator Moro's motion on Tuesday was to ask the Senate to reinstate Senator Abdul Ningi so he can return to his legislative duties and to evaluate the supplementary resolution that was recorded in its Votes and Proceedings on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
The Senate Minority Leadership apologized on behalf of their colleague, Senator Ningi, and accepted full responsibility for his actions, according to the motion.
The senators in plenary unanimously approved the request, and Senator Ningi was called back.
