Microsoft Lays Off Nigerian Staff at African Dev Centre

Microsoft dismisses employees at the African Development Center in Nigeria

US technology giant Microsoft has laid off employees at its African Development Centre (ADC) in Lagos, Nigeria.

Microsoft launched the ADC, an engineering center in Africa with the goal of fostering employment opportunities, advancing technology advancements on the continent, and offering local solutions that can be scaled globally.

A staff member who spoke to a reporter on Wednesday confirmed the development and said that while the reasons for the layoffs are yet unknown, the workforce was let go.

Reportedly, the center has been closed by the corporation.

This is the first advancement in less than four years since Microsoft began doing business in Nigeria.

Microsoft announced in May 2019 that it had established ADCs in Kenya and Nigeria with the goal of developing cutting-edge technology for the global community as well as for the continent of Africa.

Microsoft issued a request for skilled developers to work on mixed reality, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

The business promised to spend $100 million within its first five years of business.

The facility opens in Lagos on March 21, 2022.

Microsoft stated that the teams responsible for product engineering, ecosystem development, and innovation will be based at the center.

The Microsoft Garage, a brand-new organization established as part of continuous attempts to grow innovation in the tech industry, was also based at the ADC building.
